Good quality silt can be of massive environmental benefit to agricultural land. It is also around a fifth of the cost of sending silt to landfill so it can make a huge financial impact on any dredging project.
A specialist chemical analysis of the silt will determine whether it is suitable for re-distribution, but in the majority of cases, it is a feasible option.
We already have excellent relationships with farmers throughout the UK but where new farmland is needed, we will approach and work with the landowners to gain agreement for silt re-distribution. Because of our experience in land restoration, we can advise farmers about any legislative factors that could affect their farming subsidies.
Land restoration work involves:
- Silt and sediment analysis
- Distribution of silt onto farmland to required proportions
- Spreading and levelling with a levelling box pulled by a crawler tractor
- Cultivating and stone picking
- Chemical and mechanical weed control
- Seeding with selected crops
We will liaise with the Environment Agency to demonstrate that the silt will have a positive environmental impact and apply for Waste Exemption Certificates on our clients’ behalf.
